The first stage of building the world′s largest power plant fired with biomass only has just been completed. During the construction phase the capacity of the power plant has been increased to 205 MW of the planned 190 MW. The investment cost will amount to over PLN 1 billion. The investment is realized by GDF SUEZ and Foster Wheeler Company, and, in the long term, will contribute to reducing emissions of sulfur dioxide, carbon dioxide and dust into the atmosphere. According to the internal analysis of the aforementioned companies, biomass burnt in the unit will decrease CO2 emissions by more than 1.2 million tons per year. Power plant in Polaniec will increase the country's energy security by diversifying energy sources and sustainable utilization of local energy resources.
