"Energy Centre" Energy Efficiency, Environment and Energy Information Agency Non-Profit Company is owned by the Ministry of Transport, Telecommunication and Energy and it is the national energy agency responsible for the improvement of the energy efficiency and renewable energy utilization. The Energy Centre manages most of the statistical issues related to energy, managing subsidies and loans for energy efficiency and renewables, and prepares the strategy of the government concerning energy efficiency and renewable energy sources, and carries out the energy agency activities. Main tasks of the Energy Centre:
Energy Centre manages programmes in the field of energy, environment and innovation for the national government, the European Union, the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the United Nations. The total turnover of the Energy Centre Hungary for 2006 was 2,08 MEUR, and at the end of that year the total number of employees was about 60. Over the last years, the attention for energy efficiency has increased in Hungary and during the next years (NEEAP 2008-2016) even more attention will be given to the dissemination of the possibilities for energy efficient measures to stakeholders in the national sphere. Energy Centre carries out a substantial part of the implementation of the Energy Service Directive (2006/32/EC) in Hungary, on behalf of the Ministry of Transport, Telecommunication and Energy. Energy Centre was assigned to develop the National Energy Efficiency Action Plan. Furthermore, Energy Centre executes the ESD monitoring requirements, implements article 5 (through an implementation programme on public procurement), and is an adviser to the Ministry on most other ESD related subjects.
