Studies on biomass trade in Central Europe have been published on 4Biomass.eu
The objective of these studies was to assess the present state of trade flows for biomass commodities in the partner countries. As trade volumes are expected to increase considerably in the next years, and topics like the origin of biomass and its sustainable production, use and transport feature highly on the agenda of EU Commission, the market situation is of great relevance.
The project partner gathered data concerning woody biomass from forests, by-products and residues from wood processing industry, and used wood, further herbaceous biomass from agriculture and horticulture, and by-products and residues from herbaceous processing industry, and as well fruit biomass like orchard and horticulture fruit, by-products and residues from herbaceous processing industry.
An important issue was the transport of solid and liquid biomass and the logistic chains. Transport over rail and ship would be the more sustainable solution but is not in all regions possible.
The trade studies are available for download under Publications.
